Guest Speaker, Mark Latham.


Mark Latham was the Labor Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament from December 2003 to January 2005, leaving politics at this time.

Having left politics, Mark searched for a new interest. As a student at Hurlstone Agricultural College, he attended the Liverpool Cup at Warwick Farm aiming to back a winner. Apart from backing the second horse, Mark admitted to little success. Yet he found the racing scene quintessentially Australian, with its romance and adulation of the horse and with all levels of society involved. He was bitten by the horse racing bug.

Stud Tour of Tasmania, February 2016.
Part 1.

This tour was arranged by Vice President Barbara to visit studs in the Launceston area of the island state. The itinerary included visits to studs in the Launceston area, the Magic Millions Annual Yearling Sale, attendance at the Launceston Cup, night racing courtesy of the Tasmanian Turf Club and for those so inclined a raid on the Casino.

Plenty of time was allotted to matters tourist, wine tastings of the cold climate vintages as well as cheese tasting of the renowned varieties of the northern districts. There was also plenty of time to indulge in sight seeing. more
